Elements of bass

Rolling out of spain with a dub/breaks cross over sound, dub Elements really live up to their name. consisting of AC45 & stuntman these to producers have had a string a high profile remixes within the breaks scene, and are set for big things across the next year.

Their first venture into the hardcore beats stable seems to have been a successful one. Kicking this ep off with a huge wobbly breaks tune chock full of serious mid range dinosaurs, off to battle intergalactic felines with lasers!
this to me is very reminiscent of some of the older Ctrl z and screwface tunes. Its nice to hear that people are filling their boots as they move off into pastures new.

ring the alarm! add the tinnitus, Future anthem brings up the b-side on this release, jumping all over the rave biznizz like a Mexican bean.
keeping the consistent theme of hard ripping mid range bass and relentless drums, this is certainly a big dancefloor track. It reminds me of some the CMD releases back in the golden era of breakbeat.

For a personal choice I would go with the backdraft remix of Future anthem, which is also included in the package.
It is just a bit less frantic but retains all the nasty elements from the original. As always it has that trade mark backdraft sound which for many has become a benchmark of the new dub-breaks sound. This is less dinosaurs and more caveman, it’s taken the next step of evolution. but something still lurks deep within its forests and menacing predatory slowness that marches towards the shore like so many ocean tides

Hot new mix from DK!

Cymatic Frequencies by DK

The man like DK has done a brand new audio visual mix for solid steel!

‘Cymatic Frequencies’ an Audio Visual mix by DK

The Solid Steel radio show regularly features AV mixes alongside the audio and this week DK gives you another treat for eyes as well as your ears with his full on Audio Visual mix ‘Cymatic Frequencies’.
It’s packed full of musical highlights from 2010, Ninja Tune & Big Dada XX celebrations and of course the odd classic thrown in for good measure, all with added visuals (most of them created for each track). No other radio show regularly gives you this ‘visual version of a mixtape’

We start where we ended the last AV mix with the anthemic ‘Hyph Mngo’ by Joy Orbison and a few choice words from Sun Ra. We continue in a future vein with the Eliphino Remix for Kidkanevil, Maddslinky given a Toddla T lick, and the heavy ‘Work them’ by Ramadanman.
Then it’s a Ninja Tune trio and a Big Dada double, James Blake floating over the Altrice remix of Caribou, before turning up the bass to 11 for Bassnectar. The beats stay heavy as we skip through George Lenton and the Jamie XX remix of Gil Scott-Heron, an ‘old skool hip hop’ trio, mixed with RackNRuin and Vent for extra dance floor punch, and it’s a D n B finish with the DJ Marky remix of ‘Wile Out’ by Zinc, Sunny by James Brown tweaked by Featurecast and we end on the sublime Flying Lotus remix for Andreya Triana.

Listen, Watch and Enjoy.

This is just part of a set that is played out live using Serato Video-SL plug in for Scratch Live. Contact solidsteel@ninjatune.net for more info.

Imetic (fka The Magnet Men) – Faith In Chaos /The Sermon (Hardcore Beats #48) includes big George Lenton Remix!

For reasons nobody knows, The Magnet Men have changed their name to Imetic. Here’s their first release on Hardcore Beats since their last one, and as expected, it’s rather ridiculous.

Residing in the space between death metal, dubstep, tear-out opera and grunge, it’s a mercurial, angry, uplifting ode to demon worship and the dangers therein.

The omnivorous George Lenton adds beautiful electric blue and silver shimmerings to the proceedings, catapulting the tune into the outer limits of funk, before smashing it face-first into ancestral tribal territory.

Stay tuned for more bass-laden sonic behemoths and misappropriated words trying to describe them.

After a small lapse in blogging we are back with a lickle remix competition for you!

The nu-jungle and club mixes of RackNRuin’s Territory were among the standout breakbeat tunes of last year, featuring some seriously firing tag-team vocal gymnastics from the mighty Navigator and Slarta John. We seem to remember the original package having at least four or five mixes on it, but why shouldn’t there be room for more? The London-based producer has decided the track is missing a vital ingredient: you (at least, those of you sad fucks who – like me – spend far too many hours in darkened rooms trying to work out whether to boost the bassline at 40 or 60 hz.)

Yes it’s remix competition time, and this one has some natty little prizes including a release on Black Butter Records, the tune’s original home. Says Matt RNR: “After countless requests from people we thought it was only right to launch a remix competition. Download the musical parts and top quality vocals from two jungle / dancehall legends Navigator and Slarta John (Basement Jaxx)!

“There will be big prizes for the winner and four runners up: the tracks will be officially released on Black Butter Records, and you’ll also get free Black Butter releases for life and goodie bags for all the runners up, plus an extra special grand prize for the winner. Good luck! And remember all remix styles are welcome! Have fun!”

Click here to grab the parts, which are at 130bpm. All entries need to be in by Monday 28th February.

It looks like the forthcoming Si Begg remix package, coming soon on Hardcore Beats and Pure Filth, is making some pretty big waves!

So much so infact that the mighty Mixmag magazine has called it “a raw and intense masterpiece” and bestows 4/5 stars on the Kanji Kinetic remix in particular! See below for the full write up and stay tuned for news of when this monster is ready to drop! :)

Artist: Si Begg
Tune: High Volume (Kanji Kinetic Remix)
Label: Hardcore Beats

Raw and intense masterpiece

As a part of a remix bundle of the super-eclectic, Si Begg’s classic cuts, London’s Kanji come up trumps. This teeth-grinder reworking blends an unrelenting mix of 4×4 breaks, jungle vibes and nauseating edits. It’ll truly devastate the dancefloor so drop it and run.

4/5

We blast open the doors into 2010 with our first major release on Pure Filth, Wicky Lindows and Future Perfect!

VENT claim Top Spot in Trackitdown tunes of the year!

As 2009 draws to a close, TrackItDown have just announced their choice picks for tunes of the year, with our very own VENT grabbing first place in the Breaks Chart with “White Out”!

TrackItDown said of the release:
“VENT have been dropping some ridiculous tunes injecting massive amounts of bass and adrenaline style riffs to create a new sound that is being picked up by the likes of Eddy Temple Morris and Reso. With producers like this and similar tracks coming through by The Illness the future of breaks looks bright. Roll on 2010!”

The good news didn’t stop there for 720Bass artists with The Equalizers’ barnstorming release ‘The Illness’ also being short-listed as one of the top Breaks tunes of the year!

Here’s to bing tings in 2010!!
